What to do with non-storable items during relocation

When you are in the process of moving, there are so many things to do. It can become pretty overwhelming. That is why most people are using moving companies Sunny Isles Beach, in order to have the best moving experience with zero stress. However, even though you leave the move to the professionals, there are things that you have to deal with. Things like how to handle the stuff that you no longer need or use, and what to do with non-storable items. There are solutions to these problems, and that is why we are here. We will give you some tips and tricks on how to handle and what to do with those non-storable items.

What to with non-storable items?

So, the easiest thing to do with non-storable items is to throw those items away. But, that does not have any sense. You may, and you probably do need those items. Let’s see what non-storable items are:

  • Any kind of medicine
  • Food and other perishables
  • Valuable items
  • Forbidden items
  • Plants

There are more items that you shouldn’t store, however, for now, we will talk about the ones we mentioned above.

What to do with the medicine?

If you have a medicine that you would like to store somewhere because you don’t know what else to do with it while moving, then let’s see the options. You cannot store it anywhere where is too dark, too light, too wet, too cold, too hot. So, it is safe to say that this goes under non-storable items. Basically, medicine is not necessary to store since it is not occupying a lot of space. So, simply move the medicine along with you. This is the only way to preserve the medicine. Medicine definitely goes under the things you simply should not store away.

Should you store food?

So, when it comes to food, there is a type of food that can be stored actually, but there is a type of food that definitely cannot be stored. So, how can you make a difference? It is pretty easy actually, easier than you thought. Canned goods re good for a storage unit. The only thing that is somewhat important is for the cans not to be directly exposed to the sun. That is pretty hard when you keep the can goods in storage so it is safe to say that you may store anything canned in storage.

On the other hand, all the perishable food, under which we consider absolutely everything that is not closed in a can, cannot be stored. It will go bad almost immediately, and that won’t be the only problem. It can also attract a lot of insects and rodents. That is the last thing you need inside a storage unit.

Forbidden items

There are actually things that you cannot store because they are forbidden by law. Items that are forbidden to store are guns and any kind of weaponry, things that can burst into flame, chemicals, gasses, fireworks, etc. Also, everything that is illegal you logically cannot store in a storage unit. At the end of the day, if you are not sure whether is it legal to store some item, look it up online and you will find the answer.

Valuable things go under non-storable items

Valuable items should definitely go to storage. For example, if you have valuable artwork there are storages especially equipped. Not only equipped in a sense of the controlled temperature inside, etc. but also equipped with security cameras and security. Also, that is what bank vaults are for. A normal storage unit is something you don’t want and need for this type of item. Having a moving checklist with non-storable items is a way to go.

Plants are among non-storable items

Plants should not be stored in a storage unit for more reasons than one. Firstly, plants need a lot of light, water, and love. They cannot get what they need inside of a storage unit. If you do store any kind of plant inside of a plant unit, it will most certainly die. Anything live can’t go to the storage!

Short-term storage

Ok, so if you simply do not know what to do with so far mentioned non-storable items, and you simply have to move them somewhere during the move, then the solution is to ask a friend for help. Or to rent short-term storage. When we say the short term, we are talking about a couple of days. However, forbidden items we have mentioned still cannot be stored under any circumstances. Also, plants should not be stored not even for a couple of days. With everything else, you are good to go for a couple of days.

The right packing material

At the end of the day, all you need to do is to pack well. For that, you need good packing material. By getting the right boxes, moving blankets, and bags you maybe won’t even have to store anything. Either way, getting a good packing material and one of the Boynton Beach moving companies,  will make the moving process so much easier. However, when it comes to plants, you can always give them to a friend or family member to take care of them. It is way better then to short-term store them even if they forget to water them for a day or two.

Moving is a whole process, with planning, packing, making calls, and eventually storing. Knowing what can you store and what you cannot store is very important. Hopefully, now that you know what can go to storage and what can’t, it will be somewhat easier for you with this moving process.
